Welcome Message from President Bellack

Janis P. Bellack

On behalf of the faculty, students, and staff of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, I am delighted to welcome you to our vibrant community of learners, scholars, and health professions leaders.

We are proud of the MGH Institute’s special mission of educating health care professionals to become leaders in their respective disciplines. With highly ranked programs in nursing, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, and medical imaging, we are able to focus our attention and resources for the maximum benefit of our students’ learning and professional development.

As the only degree-granting member of Partners HealthCare, our close affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital and other institutions in Partners HealthCare and across Greater Boston, we offer our students the distinct advantage of learning and practicing with the best in their fields.

We are committed to expanding and refining the scientific basis for health care through innovation in teaching, clinical excellence, service, and research. Most of our faculty are practicing clinicians, which enriches their teaching and ensures they are up-to-date on the latest developments in their professions. The Institute community has embraced a strong commitment to diversity, which fosters an inclusive learning environment and assures our graduates are culturally sensitive practitioners able to care for an increasingly diverse population.

Founded in 1977 by visionary leaders at the MGH, we take pride in the evolving traditions of the MGH Institute and look forward to building an even brighter future.

We recently expanded our campus, providing students and faculty with additional space to enhance our learning and work environments. Our expanded Speech, Language and Literacy Center provides services to more than 200 clients weekly and serves as a learning laboratory for our students. Onsite nursing and physical therapy skill labs give students opportunities for learning in simulated environments. A planned clinical simulation lab will provide all students with experiences using sophisticated simulation technology.

In the coming decade we will continue to develop our programs, grow faculty research, fully realize our commitments to diversity and interdisciplinary education, and further strengthen our relationships with MGH and other affiliates of Partners HealthCare. We are also working to become more fully engaged with our neighbors in Charlestown and the navy yard area.

On behalf of the MGH Institute community, I welcome you and invite you to learn more about us. We strive to continually improve our programs and services, and invite you to share your comments and suggestions.
